Possible Architecture options
1. Freescale + TI DSP + Dallas Framer
PCI-E -- Free scale mpc8569 --TI DSP TMS320TCI6486 --Dallas Framer
2. Freescale + Freescale starcore dsp + dallas frammer
pci-e--freescale powerpc --Starcore dsp--Dallas Frammer
3. Freescale + Dallas Frammer
PCI-e -- Freescale MSC 8156E-- Dallas Framer
1. Freescale + TI DSP + Dallas Framer

3. Freescale + Dallas Frammer

By Comparing the power budgeting of Freescale Star Core DSP and TI DSP, i would recommend to go with TI DSP, since it is PCIe based card.
ReplyDeleteI recommend with two planes of hardware,
one plane is static ( towards voice with MPC8569 and Single TMS320DM644X ). second plane is extension module provides multiple DSP options for video transcoding activities.
so dsp will be a kind of add on Module ?
ReplyDeleteBut TMS320TCI6486 would be best isnt it instead of TMS320DM644X?
ReplyDeleteyes, with this plan, we can provide two versions of cards, one for voice, added with DSP plane, it support video transcodings.
ReplyDeletesorry for dsp solution, i am recommending the TMS320TCI64xx series of DSP, suits voice / video telephony solutions.
ReplyDeleteWhy dont we go with a DSP (MSC8144 or MSC8156) and Dallas Framer to build a 16 E1/T1 card. What will be pros and cons in Option 3 Architecture.

ReplyDelete@vijay can you share any link comparing both the dsp's?
ReplyDeleteand we need to have a discussion on weather we can eliminate Power pc MPC8569..............
@Hariharan can we eliminate MPC8569 if we use 8144 or 8159 DSP from Freescale
ReplyDeleteIt would be good if we have a website where we could share the documents.
ReplyDeleteHere is the comparison link
http://cache.freescale.com/files/dsp/doc/eng_bulletin/EB702.pdf?fpsp=1
And what I have seen is MSC8144 is meant for Video trans-coding also if required multiple DSP banks can be connected in PCI interface with out any additional chips. Share your comments on the same.
if some one can update information in
ReplyDeletehttp://www.voip-info.org/wiki/index.php?page=Opensource+16+E1+%2F+T1+telecom+card
it would be good
MSC8144/MSC8156 can be very good option for voice / video transcoding. It has been provided with transparent TDM channels to handle voice / video traffic.
ReplyDeletebut it does not resolves the purpose of telecom signalling like ISDN, SS7, since it does not contain the HDLC / SS7 capability.
If we are building Voice / Video transcoding card both TI and Freescale DSPs are best options, provided with signaling needs to be handled with some other processors.
based on signaling capability requirement, we shall choose from MPC8260, MPC8360, MPC8569 for 64/128/256 SS7 and 128/256/512 HDLC channels.
Freescale DSPs is more powerful towards 3G NIC provided with AMC, which suits the power budgets. For this requirement, i would suggest power efficient TI DSPs.
